Tik Tik Tik is a sci-fi adventure thriller directed by Shakti Sounder Rajan. There is space station with a nuclear missile that can destroy the rogue asteroid. The in-charge of that space station seems to be in a quarrel with India. So, they enlist the service of a local magician to go into space an.
Tik Tik Tik synopsis: An asteroid, which is expected to hit Chennai and its surrounding places, poses a threat to the lives of around four crore people. A five-member team is sent by the Defence Space Division to space to stop the celestial body from hitting the planet.Tik Tik Tik Review: Like with his previous films, this time, too, Shakti Soundar Rajan tries his hands on a theme which hasn’t been attempted in Tamil cinema before.
Tipped as a first-of-its-kind space film from the country, Tik Tik Tik begins when the Defense Space Division team (DSD), which has Mahendran (Jayaprakash) at its helm, finding that an asteroid is on its way to earth. It is expected to hit the planet in seven days, putting the lives of four crore people in danger. They further learn that a heavy missile should be used to destroy the asteroid. However, given the minimal time they have, the only option left to them is to get the missile through illegal means. However, considering the seriousness of the issue, the DSD team goes ahead with this secret mission, which only the nation’s Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister are aware of. The biggest challenge for them is to obtain it from a secret vault kept on a Chinese space ship.
The defence team realises that their expertise on space science isn’t quite enough for the operation, and that they need some smart and brainy people who can act fast. They rope in escape artist Vasu (Jayam Ravi) and his friends, Venkat (Ramesh Thilak) and Appu (Arjunan), for the same. Joining them are two efficient members from DSD — Swathi (Nivetha Pethuraj) and Raguram (Vincent Asokan). When they set out to space for the mission, Vasu gets a threat from an unknown person just as they are about to take off in an unusual way. He is asked to hand over the missile as per the latter's instruction if he needs Ravi (Aarav Ravi), his son, safe. Will the five-member team overcome all odds, get the missile and save the country?First things first, the film offers a new experience to the Tamil audience. Though there are shots where you feel the CG could have been done in a better way, the crew has done a decent job considering the budget and the time involved in the making. The screenplay, however, is quite predictable and the challenges which the protagonists face and the manner in which they overcome them aren't convincing in certain places.
The lack of a strong antagonist and emotional scenes needed in such a genre, too, dilute the tension. A twist towards the climax and a few logical loopholes also affect the flow of events.
The infusion of small dose of light-hearted comic scenes and dialogues even in serious scenes for the characters Venkat and Appu weakens the otherwise tense mood of the film.On the positive side, Jayam Ravi does justice to the character of Vasu, a doting father, while Nivetha could have had more interesting scenes. The background score by Imman is another positive element in the movie.
On the whole, Tik Tik Tik could have been much more considering the newness of its genre, but the attempt is certainly a laudable one.
